Background
Lumberton Firefighters Association (LFA) is a registered 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. It is the purpose and mission of the LFA to raise monies and support the Lumberton Fire Department. The LFA will contribute to the fire department through public education and the development of career and volunteer members.
It shall be the policy of the Association that any expenditure of funds be consistent with the purpose and mission of the Association. To carry out its purpose and mission, the Association will consult with the Chief of the Lumberton Fire Department on the types of programs, equipment and training to be offered or donated to the career and volunteer firefighters.
Members
Classes of members, the Corporation shall have 2 classes of members: volunteer firefighters and auxiliary members.
Membership
Active duty members of the volunteer firefighter and auxiliary components of the LFA shall become members of the Corporation automatically upon their election to membership and upon the reactivation of their membership in the volunteer firefighter and auxiliary components of the Lumberton Fire Department.
Members may not be active career firefighters with the City of Lumberton, but may serve in the capacity of a volunteer firefighter or auxiliary member. The main function of volunteer firefighters will be to assist with structural fire fighting and emergency incident response. The primary function of auxiliary members will be to aid and support the LFA in volunteer capacities such as fund raising, public education, and civic events. All retired career firefighters of the Lumberton Fire Department shall be automatically Class A members of the Corporation.
All LFA members must be at minimum of 16 years of age, with the exception of volunteer firefighters who must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Otherwise, membership will be available to all organization family members and affiliates, regardless of age, race, color, creed, gender, religion, or national origin.
