Nestled along the banks of the Lumber River, downtown Lumberton is fortunate in having a National Register Commercial Historic District consisting of approximately 89 commercial structures dating from 1840-1941.
Our commitment to the North Carolina Main Street Program is a major step towards accomplishing our revitalization goals. The Main Street Program is a preservation-based revitalization program, which maintains the historic architecture of downtown while increasing economic growth and stability within the area to create a community transformation.
As Lumberton's Downtown Development Coordinator, it is my job to work with both the private and public sectors to implement the Main Street Program's 4-point approach. The Four Points include:
Through various partnership efforts and the tireless work of many volunteers and non-profit organizations, Downtown Lumberton has seen new downtown projects and community involvement. Visit YOUR Downtown and get involved! Support special events and our local small business owners. There is no great community without a great Downtown!
Lumberton is a North Carolina Main Street community, designated by the N.C. Department of Commerce Main Street & Rural Planning Center. Main Street Lumberton is charged with administering the program at the local level and building public-private partnerships to spur economic development that achieves measurable results such as investment, business growth, and job creation.
