City of Lumberton Receives the RP3 Award


City of Lumberton's Electric Utilities is one of 48 of the nations more than 2000 public power utilities in the nation to earn Reliable Public Power (RP3) recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA). This designation honors utilities for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.


Key Disciplines


The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines:
  •     Reliability
  •     Safety
  •     System improvement
  •     Training
Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. The award was presented to the City of Lumberton in February 2007.

Century Award


The City of Lumberton received the Century Award, February 18, 2004. This award, established in 1987, acknowledges public power utilities that have provided electricity to their consumers and community continuously for 100 years. The City of Lumberton was the 8th city in North Carolina to receive this honor.

Substation Number 4


The City is presently working on the construction of a new substation located around the Bullard Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. area. Construction should begin around August 2008 with the completion anticipated for March 2009. This substation will provide the Electric Utilities Department with an increased capability of providing our customers more reliable service during regular load conditions and especially during major power outages should they occur. The City of Lumberton's Electric Utilities Department strives to keep our system reliable and up to date for our customers by constantly improving our engineering and construction standards.
